Frequently Asked Questions

Can I take the same Exercise Science Activity course more than once?
Yes, but not in the same semester.

I would like to take two Activity courses in the same semester. What should I do?
You will need to work with the Office of the Registrar. Certain rules apply [see Policies]. The same rules apply to student-athletes who participate in a sport in the same semester as taking an Activity course.

I’m on the wait list. What should I do?
Attend the first class with an Add/Drop card. Be prepared to participate that day.

I’m not on the wait list, but want to take the class. What should I do?
Attend the first class with an Add/Drop card. Be prepared to participate that day.

I need to Drop an Activity Course. What should I do?
Bring your completed Add/Drop Card to your Instructor for his/her signature. The Exercise Science Department Chair, or the ExSci Administrative Assistant can also sign in the Instructor’s stead.

How can I get in touch with an Activity Course Instructor?
It is easiest via email, or by showing up before or after the Instructor’s class.
Most of our Activity Course Instructors are on campus only for the time window that they are instructing. Most do not have an office nor direct phone number. You can also leave a message at the Exercise Science office in Sparks.

What if I am sick?
Send an email to your Instructor. However, since Activity courses are participation-based, any absence will count towards the maximum allowed. [See specific course site or Policies.]

What if my instructor is sick?
If a class is cancelled for the day, your instructor or the Exercise Science Administrative Assistant will probably send you an email. There may also be a sign posted at the Sparks entrance or on the classroom door.

Can my friend come with me?
No. Only undergrad students who are registered for the course may participate in Activity courses.

I am WU faculty/staff/grad student. Can I take an Activity course?
Not usually. Most Activity Courses are full the first two days of on-line registration. And there are long wait-lists of students wanting to take the courses. Due to space limitations, non-CLA/TIUA students cannot take Activity Courses.

What about after-hours classes?
Student Activities offers fitness classes such as hip-hop dance, yoga, Pilates, etc for a small fee. The classes, fees, and schedule are determined after the start of each semester.
These are not for credit. Please contact Student Activities/Campus Recreation for more information.

Can you tell me about the Sparks Center?
Sparks Center hours, policies, and other information may be found on the Athletics website.
