Professor Harmer Lauded
Professor
Peter Harmer, ATC, was noted in the January
2005 edition of NATA News for
receiving the Ray Miller Award for servce
at the 2004 U.S. Fencing Association
Hall of Fame banquet. Harmer, the athletic
trainer for USFA teams at 18 World Championships,
was recognized for developing, administering
and staffing a program that provides
medical support personnel at all USFA
national competitions. Since the program's
inception in 2001, volunteer certified
athletic trainers have cared for the
almost 40,000 participants. In addition
to coverage of national events, the program
is designed to develop ATCs to work with
USFA national teams. The success of this
integrated approach was exemplified when
the program's first graduate was selected
by the USOC as a member of the medical
team for the 2004 Olympic Games. 01/05.
