Jay Chen obtained his bachelor's degree from the Sichuan Conservatory
of Music in China, and his master's degree from Oregon State
University. Professor Chen is a trumpet instructor at OSU and
Willamette University. He also conducts University Band at Willamette
as well as the brass ensembles at both schools.
Chen is the principle trumpet for the Portland Opera and the
Salem Chamber Orchestra. He has also performed with the Oregon
Block Festival in Newport, the Oregon Bach Festival in Eugene,
and with the Cascade Music Festival in Bend, Oregon. In 1997,
he toured with the Chestnut Brass Co. through nine midwestern
states. In China, he served as trumpet instructor at the Sichuan
Conservatory and as principal trumpet for the Emei Motion Picture
and Television Industry Orchestra.
