Program Overview

The objective of the Science Collaborative Research Program (SCRP) is to provide selected undergraduate students a collaborative research experience during the summer with faculty in the natural sciences.

Presently, the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Exercise Science, and Physics participate in the summer research activities. Throughout a nine week period, a stipend, food allowance, and housing are provided to participating students. Funding for the program accommodates up to twenty students and ten faculty.

Students are expected to communicate their final research findings in a formal paper, deliver an oral presentation and mount a poster display for an in-house symposium and off-campus regional meeting of undergraduate research.

Program History

In 1996, the SCRP program was established with funding and support from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust. In 1998, Willamette University raised a $2 million endowment for SCRP from the Mary Stuart Rogers Foundation. In 2005-06, monies from an anonymous donor in the amount of $450,000 were added to the endowment. It is these endowed funds that support the research program.
