Dancer
Bodies in States of Motion (Mar.
2000)
When Meagan Orion was three, the Kronos Quartet rehearsed
on broken mismatched chairs on the front lawn while she danced naked around
them. By seven, she was wearing pink ballet slippers and a tutu. In college,
she rediscovered Modern Dance and yearned to experience it in the fullest,
most intense way possible. Thus, in 1995 she stepped off a plane in New
York City with her teddybear Fritz, her bloodstained lucky toe shoes,
and 85 pounds of miscellaneous supplies to enter a two year program at
the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center. After graduating, Meagan returned
to Eugene to be close to her family, breathe clean air, and dance in the
woods. In addition to her work with Van Ummersen dance Company, she has
appeared with Dance Theater of Oregon, and has shown original work in
TapRoOT’s Showcase series.
