How to use the Virtual Tour

Welcome to the Willamette University Campus Virtual Tour. Use this tour to experience our campus, find a building, locate parking or learn what it’s like to live and work at Willamette. We have provided the reference materials below if you need help navigating our tour.

Virtual Tour Navigation

Tour Category
Tours and Current Tour (example image) Every place on the campus map is organized into three categories: buildings, nature and landmarks, student hangouts. You can select which type of place you would like to visit in the upper-right of the tour window. The current tour name appears immediately above the three tour categories.

Tour Sub-categories
Tour Sub-categories and Place List (example image) Within each tour there may be sub-categories of places. For example the buildings tour category has four sub-categories (and the “all” sub-category). To select a tour, click on the sub-category name.

All of the places you can visit in the tour sub-category appear listed to the immediate right of the sub-categories. Places are listed alphabetically; you can use this list to jump ahead or back quickly by simply clicking on the place name.

For Every Place

Place Images (example image, reduced) Each place may have up to four types of information available about it: history, what happens here, map it, and sound. Excluding sound, which you can turn on and off at any time, only one of h, w, or m can be selected at a time. Both history and what happens here show you images of the place; naturally, map it shows you the place on the campus map.

History
H History (example image) History tells you about the history of the place, as it relates to Willamette. The arrow buttons in the upper-left of the text area allow you to move ahead or back one place, in the current tour.

What Happens Here
W What Happens Here (example image) What happens here tells you all the things (or university functions) that happen at the place, such as ultimate frisbee, dining, the Office of Admission, or studying, just to name a few. The arrow buttons in the upper-left of the text area allow you to move ahead or back one place, in the current tour.

Map It
M Map It (example image, reduced) Map it displays the current place on the campus map, and can be left on, if you wish to move through the tour seeing the relationship of place to place.

As you move your mouse across the map, you can, when not on a map place, drag the map to move it. When you are on a map place, you can click it to go there.
Map It Panels
Map It Panel When the map is visible, the map options panel also appears. With the map options panel, each button will toggle the display of the various map elements. In order, from left-to-right, they are: display the map inset panel, highlight parking, display public-use campus phones, display disabled-accessible building entrances, show pop-up place titles, and show the “You Are Here” marker. With the slider at the end, you control the map zoom.

Map It Inset Panel If the inset is displayed, you can use it to visually locate yourself in the greater campus map. If you desire, you can drag the dark-magenta inset outline to move your location on the map or you can click elsewhere on the map to move the map display to that location.

Both of these panels are grabable and dragable, if you would prefer them in another location.

Sound
S If sound for the place is available, you can turn it on and off as desired. (There are volume and mute sound controls at the very bottom-right of the tour window.)
